8/22-23 サンディエゴでswim × artイベントを開催

Aug 22–23: swimwear × art event in San Diego

We live in a time when AI is rapidly transforming the way we create and live.

At the same time, we are seeing a renewed appreciation for things that connect us to nature — traditional craftsmanship, working with our hands, and the value of making things through a more physical, human experience.

Perhaps the more technology advances, the more we find ourselves drawn back to nature and handmade things. Not as a return to the past, but as a new kind of value emerging for the future.

In Japanese, “藍” — the word for indigo — is romanized as “ai,” the same letters as AI.

This unexpected connection with AI (Artificial Intelligence) became the inspiration for the theme of this event: 藍 (ai) — natural intelligence.

A celebration of the value of what is created through nature and human hands.

For this event, eit swim will present a swimwear pop-up featuring pieces designed with Japanese indigo, alongside an art exhibition by our friend, French artist Pandora Decoster. Pandora will be creating a new body of work using Japanese indigo pigment — including watercolor, a new medium for her.

We will also have a free, open-ended craft experience where visitors can create their own small artwork using indigo-dyed washi paper and scraps.

The event will take place at Dear Tomorrow in Oceanside, a special space where artists live and create during residencies, while also hosting exhibitions, markets, and other gatherings.

Craft Experience
Join us for a free, drop-in craft experience using indigo-dyed washi paper and scraps. Cut, tear, and layer the pieces onto a paper board to create your own small artwork inspired by indigo.

Come experience, in your own way, a small part of the traditional Japanese world of indigo.

Inspired by surfing and the beach, she creates work with fluid, organic lines and a distinctive sense of color, developing a visual language that stands apart from traditional surf art.
