#12 free-diver KAT ORR

#12 free-diver KAT ORR

Our interview series, "Around eit swim: People We Love", features those who support and inspire us. We’re sharing real voices from the people who wear and love eit swim.

For #12, we meet Kat Orr, a Southern California local who loves free diving, spearfishing, hiking, and pretty much anything to do with nature. The ocean feels like home to her.

We first met Kat at an indigo-themed event we hosted in North County San Diego. She took the time to listen and learn about our Plant Marble pattern, our products, Japan, and travel. Now, she enjoys free diving in eit swim.

-What is your favorite eit swim piece, and why?
Item:【High Neck Short Swim Tank Plant Marble】
I love the indigo on this piece and how comfortable it is. I love that I could dress it up for a night out or wear it free diving/swimming.

-When you go freediving, bodysurfing, or doing other water activities, what do you look for in a swimsuit?
I look for a swimsuit that offers sustainability and versatility. I was so comfortable with eit swim as I was able to bodysurf, swim, freedive or take a nice nap on the beach.

-How did you feel when you first got in the water wearing eit swim?
I felt great. Getting out to the kelp we had to swim through some bigger sets and chop. The suit stayed snug the whole time. I didn’t have to adjust or even think about it. The suit felt like my own skin.

when I was breathing up and would take a big breath to dive down, it had the flexibility to expand with my rib cage, which most swimwear doesn’t. Most swimwear is either flexible but falls off or snug but restrictive. I appreciate how well made it is for free diving it allowed me comfort which is so important for deeper longer dives.

It’s such a meditative experience and sometimes if a swimsuit feels too tight or too loose, my mind will be focused on what feels uncomfortable instead of relaxing while diving. It can negatively impact my breath hold. But I didn’t have to think about it at all with the suit. It was perfect.

-What was your first impression when you first saw eit swim?
My first impression was wow that’s a beautiful color like a stormy sea. I love how eit swim connects art to nature. I loved looking at so many different pieces that had a beautiful elegance to them. I loved learning about the process of creating Japanese indigo art.

-What do you feel connects you and eit swim?
I feel connected to the colors of the plants. The indigo is one of my favorite colors. It reminds me of freediving and looking up at waves breaking above me. Seeing all the beautiful colors of nature. I felt connected through conversations about travel, Japan, pescatarianism and spearfishing.
